ABOUT US
About B & W Sport horses…it all began with my love of pintos and in particular black and white pinto or piebald.
When I was a teenager, my sister Sharon and I would often frequent horse auctions and before leaving to go to one, mum stated “no more horses!” Opps…he was only $130. Danny Boy, a piebald gelding, 13 years old and only 13.3hh, but he didn’t know that as he rode like a horse with his huge stride.
Danny Boy was a legend…his first outing he won the maiden round the ring, the open RTR and the novice and C grade show jump. He continued his winning ways with his incredible scope and entertaining leaps over the horse RTR fences with one stride through the double brushes and only beaten in show jumping if he pulled a rail. Thus he achieved B grade in his first season competing.
After tracing Danny’s origins we were surprised to learn that a cousin of mum’s had bred him. He was out of a cream and white pinto pony and by a Fautirage colt. This stallion was called Tira Mink and later sired the legendary CHARISMA. No wonder he could jump!
"Face Value Two"(Oreo) has arrived many years later with the aim of producing, beautiful pinto horses in a bigger package than Danny Boy.
Our small select band of brood mares have the jump or breeding to enhance the likelihood of producing quality competition horses as I have always believed that approx 75% of the athletic ability can come from the mare. We have also considered the trend at present, that people prefer a taller horse to ride (hence we have a couple of very tall mares).
Train-ability, ride-ability and temperment are very important characteristics that come from Oreo’s ancestors, Clydesdale and Kaikohe Station bred.
Nice movement can be difficult to find in a heavy weight type of horse but Oreo possesses this and his jump is bold and correct, a lovely bascule, even in front and an nice follow through out the back.
His foals on the ground are exceptional. They display a good amount of bone with out being too heavy. Nice straight movement, with a big over step and lovely correct confirmation. Temperament continues to amaze me. They totally lack the panic mode and seem to have a natural boldness with a couple of fillies already natural jumpers(paddock hoppers)
The team here consists of Stud Stallion "Face Value Two"(Oreo).
My self, Chrissy Hansen (show jumper and low level eventer) Oreo’s loyal servant and date manager.
John Harris (polo player and polo pony breeder) whom I couldn’t manage without. John has another busy farm a bit further up the road where he runs his own polo pony stallion and polo pony producing operation in partnership with his daughter Laura.
My daughter Jodine Hansen (an accomplished event rider and show jumper) who is currently in England but will be back for the this stud season.
The stud is purposely set up with Oreo doing his own teasing. Oreo lives close to his visitors so that that they settle in well prior to serving.
Fencing consists of Post and rails or no. 8 wire with electric tape out- riggers. We have excellent pasture and mares will be fed supplementary feed when required in the form of quality hay and balage.
We use two very good local vets for our scanning and we have a purpose built crush for this.
All mares are hand served with cleanliness paramount. We will not serve mares with temperament issues, confirmation issues and who are not used to a single hobble (a strap around the near back fetlock, which can be quickly released). We do this to protect our stallion from being kicked. You must ensure this before she arrives at our stud. Contact us if you require advice as to how to condition your mare to this handling.
Any history of infection or obvious discharge she will be turned away. We have no problem with maiden mares but will not accept elderly, problem breeders.
Do book early as we had a full book last season with some people missing out and next seasons book is filling fast.
Thank you for looking at our web site and we look forward to meeting you if you are considering breeding a Face Value Two, foal…
